Rent the Runway

Uncategorized 2 . 5 . 14

I heard about this website a while back called Rent The Runway. Anything that has to be shipped to me in a certain time frame for an important event makes me a bit hesitate. After renting two dresses from them now, I can say I am a super satisfied customer! I decided to order one of their dresses for a styled shoot and I ordered one for myself as Nick and I attended the local Chamber Gala a few weeks ago. This company rents high end name brand gowns, dresses, and accessories for formal occasions for a nominal fee. For instance, most of these gowns are hundreds to thousands of dollars. You can rent a thousand dollar gown for about $100! That’s a smokin’ deal in my book! I would probably never want to wear that dress again anyways. I like new things :)

Let me take you through process. Go to their website and find the dress you like. You can order the dress in 2 sizes for the same cost! This way if one of them doesn’t fit you you have the other option. In both instances, one of the dresses fit perfectly. The dress comes to your home via UPS the day you select. The minimum day rental is 4 days, you don’t have to sweat about receiving your outfit in time. I ordered my dress to come on Thursday for an event on Saturday. This also gave me some much needed time to find the perfect accessories.  The dresses come in nice garment bags you get to keep! The box also included the pre-labled envelope to mail the dress back. After you wear the dress just put in the envelope. No dry cleaning needed!  I dropped by the local UPS store and sent the dresses back Monday. It was easy! The best part is that I could justify a pair of super fabulous new shoes on the money I saved renting a dress.

I think this dress rental option would be beneficial for brides wanting to save some money. It is also perfect if you wanted to do a more formal outfit for engagement pictures. I even thought it would be great for seniors that want to do something out of the ordinary. I’m passing along this neat business for those looking for a high end gown that may be on a budget or looking for something as a one time use. Below is a photo of the dress I rented for our Valentine’s Day shoot. It was a gorgeous Caroline Herrera gown that retails for almost $3,500. I rented it for $80! Here is a little peek into this styled shoot coming to the blog soon!

Sole Hope Internship

Uncategorized 1 . 31 . 14

I was chatting with a friend from high school this morning, Ashley, and she told me about this awesome opportunity for a creative person. Ashley is the Chief Ambassador & Shoe Party Specialist for an organization called Sole Hope.  I have heard about this organization through a couple friends on social  media, but didn’t realize everything that they did. I feel so inspired to share this with you. To learn a little bit about their company read below or visit their website here. They are looking to bring on a photography or video intern for 3-6 months in Uganda, Africa. If I didn’t have the business to run, I would drop everything I was doing and take advantage of this awesome opportunity! I thought this would be perfect for someone right of school looking to build their portfolio. What amazing images and video you would have to share from this experience.

“Sole Hope started to provide closed toe shoes to African children; this is still our heart’s desire. But as we got to know the wonderful Ugandan and Zambian people, we realized we could do more. And when we returned to the U.S. after our initial working trip to Africa, we realized we could help adults across the world—that’s why we also serve our shoemakers. But to really make the whole thing work, we need shoe buyers, not just in Africa, but everywhere. And so we’re serving buyers too. We think everyone should have the chance to wear the really cool shoes and give back at the same time.”

The contact information for Sole Hope is at the bottom of this image. Feel free to share this opportunity with other creatives!

Hannah, 2014 Helias Senior

Seniors 1 . 16 . 14

I am loving all these senior winter shoots! Don’t forget we have winter senior collections available for the months of January and February. Luckily, Hannah bundled up for her senior session. It was so cold! We had a beautiful sunny day, but that wind was a little chilly. We shot this session out at our home. Our acreage is wooded so there are many pretty spots after a snow. Hannah is a 2014 senior from Helias High School. She is so fun to photograph and such a sweet person. I am going to be so sad to see these girls graduate.

Last year, I  learned about the Chic Critique website and their magazine. They are a great group of men and women who support the photography community and provide amazing resources to learn and develop in the industry. I am so excited that Sarah & Codi’s engagement session was featured in the Chic Magazine this month! Issue 8 hit stands today! I just read through the entire magazine and there is so much great info for photographers. Not to mention, swoon worthy images. If you are interested in purchasing a copy click here.
