I am so thankful for another year of doing what I love. We have photographed 20 weddings, over 65 portraits, and worked with numerous weddings and businesses on video; cheers to that! Nick and I traveled all of the world this year, literally. From Las Vegas, almost every state in the Midwest, and our overseas adventure of Uganda, Africa and England. Our work has been featured in Style Me Pretty, TheKnot, Senior Style Guide, numerous local print publications, and other national publications. Thank you. If I didn’t wake up every morning photographing people and the moments in their lives none of this would be possible. 2015 is going to be a big year for Nick and I; full of changes and new adventures. I can’t wait to see God’s plans unfold in our lives.
There is no better way for me to sum up 2014 that with the moments I watched and captured this year. It sometimes feels like wedding photography is all about the pretty details that are glamorized in magazines and blogs. It isn’t, it is about the people, and somewhere along the lines of pretty dress and diamond rings we loose track of what matters most: families, love, and relationships. The images I have chosen to highlight 2014 speak to me and they all have story. They are imperfect perfection. They are not posed, technically correct, and they won’t win any awards. However, they capture a moment in time that I hope each family will cherish for years to come and pass down through generations. Whether is be from a tearful first look, visiting a disabled grandparent unable to attend the wedding, Skyping with a sibling out of country, or putting the shoes on your future daughter, they all tell a story. I am happy to say that when selecting photos for this post I had a hard time narrowing down my favorite moments of each wedding.
Thank you to all of my 2014 couples, families, and seniors for allowing us to be apart of your life and trusting us with your memories. Nick and I wish you a very Happy New Year!
Merry Christmas to all! Nick and I were just commenting on how fast this year has flown by, it is hard to think it is already the holiday season. We had an amazing year filled with lots of excitement and met so many new and amazing people. I have been prepping a year-end post filled with pictures and stories from 2014 that will hit the blog next week. This year’s family picture with “the girls” was the first family picture we actually had cooperation. After Nick saw the pictures he asked if they were photo-shopped. Ha! No, Ellie and Sophie finally decided after 7 years it was time to humor me. Not pictured (due to cooperation) our kitties Ollie, Emmie, and Sasha.
At the risk of sounding cheesy, we love you all and are so thankful for everyone in our life. Hold your loved ones tight this year, Merry Christmas!
This may be the highlight of my month! I was so excited when TheKnot contacted me this past summer to publish Tom & Jen’s gorgeous ballroom wedding in their Fall issue. I was even more honored that I was chosen out of 13 Midwest weddings to be featured in this issue. It is on stands and in stores now if you want to pick up a copy!
Phew, my heart pumps just thinking about this one! I began talking with Jay back in the summer about how he was waiting for the perfect day to surprise his long time girlfriend, Kayla, with a proposal. Jay is a pilot and he came up with the idea to propose in air. This wasn’t going to be just any proposal, he was going to stage an in-flight engine failure on their way to Chicago for a romantic weekend. Kayla would have to follow a list of emergency procedures and eventually find her gorgeous yellow diamond in the emergency pack in the plane. Jay had this planned out perfectly, he even got the FAA to play along and guide him back to the Jefferson City airport for an emergency landing. What Kayla didn’t know was that her friends and family were listening on the in-flight radio as Jay popped the question. I think she was in shock for a few minutes as she realized there wasn’t anything wrong with the plane, this was all planned! When they arrived back at the airport Kayla and Jay were greeted by all their loved ones. I was there waiting with the camera to capture those moments as they unfolded. The best part, Jay installed a Go Pro in the dash of the plane! You can watch their whole trip and proposal on the video below. You may want to scroll into about 8 minutes as that it when Jay calls in the engine failure. Kayla does say yes at 4500 feet in the air :)
