Winter Senior Photo-Shoots Jefferson City, Missouri

Seniors 12 . 27 . 13

The winter months have made their arrival and I have decided to offer something different and fun this year to all my seniors. Typically, seniors don’t think about the winter months for their senior shoot. However,  it is one of the most beautiful times of the year. Even if we don’t have a snowfall, the neutral palette of the outdoors and soft winter sunlight make for incredible scenery. Therefore, I am offering a Winter Senior Collection for the months of January and February! Each session will include a 45 minute photo-shoot, print credit, printed 4×6 proofs, and digital files. We will have limited spots for weekend appointments so please book in advance.

My senior model from Jefferson City High School, Kaitlyn, joined me for my first snow shoot this year! She is so fun to photograph and gorgeous as always.

Please email lindsey@lindseypantaleo.com for additional photo-shoot and booking information.

Warmest Wishes

Uncategorized 12 . 24 . 13

This marks year 2 of not getting our Christmas cards printed and in the mail on time! I had really good intentions and plans to make sure this task was completed early fall. Needless to say, it has been a busy year. I love getting Christmas cards and thank you to those who sent us special messages and cards this year. We are blessed to have awesome family and friends.

Yesterday, I had a good friend and photographer, Janelle Harris, come out to our home and shoot a couple of us and the girls. We walk this path every night together. The girls were rambunctious and full of shenanigans as usual. We call Sophie the “Roaming Gnome”; we are lucky to have her in any of the pictures.  All of our trees have a sparkly coat of ice and are so pretty right now. It started snowing and was about 17°….we were frozen within minutes. Thanks for bearing the cold with us Janelle!

We wish everyone a Merry and Bright Christmas and a Happy New Year,

Nick, Lindsey, Ellie, & Sophie

Shelby Senior 2014, Jefferson City Missouri

Seniors 12 . 19 . 13

Shelby’s senior session was photographed on possibly the coldest day of the year! She did amazing and I only heard her teeth chatter once :) Shelby is a 2014 senior at Jefferson City High School. She is absolutely gorgeous and has the sweetest personality. I really enjoyed our session together. After school she plans on attending college.

I know the popular time of the year is summer and early fall, but there is something that I love about a winter senior session.  The winter chill and I don’t normally get along, but I can’t resist that warm soft winter sunlight. We started Shelby’s photo-shoot in the small town of Lohman, which is about 15 minutes from Jeff City. She has fond memories of passing through that town as a child on her way to visit family. The little town is picturesque a perfect reflection of small town USA. I hope to travel back there for more photo-shoots. Since Shelby loves the outdoors we also made a stop of Binder State Park.

Congrats on your senior year Shelby!

Codi & Sarah- Kansas City Missouri

Engagement 12 . 18 . 13

As I was chatting with Sarah over the phone about her wedding, visions, and style, I knew we were a perfect match. Her and Codi met while she was working at her Dad’s business. He came in one day and they hit it off. Codi proposed while vacationing in Glacier Park, Montana. Sarah came to me with a unique thought for her engagement session. She wanted to do part of the shoot styled in the 1920’s. They both really love that era and collect antiques and heirlooms from that generation. I was in LOVE with the idea! They wanted the shoot to resemble the movie “Lawless” that depicted a  family who made their living off of moonshine in the 1920’s. Sarah has antique chairs, fur coats, pistols, the original blue mason jars they used for transport, and a Model A Ford. How cool is that?!?

For the first part of their session they wanted to take a few around the small town of Pleasant Hill, where they both work at a family owned grain elevator. The downtown area of Pleasant Hill  is darling and has several older buildings. I love the small town atmosphere, everyone we passed on the street knew Sarah and Codi and stopped to chat. Their fur baby, June, also posed for some pictures. She is such a cute pup! Nick was unenthused when I came home requesting one just like her :)

Can’t wait for 2014 and their spring wedding!

Financial Friday

Uncategorized 12 . 13 . 13

My hope is that by adding the new installment of “For Photographers” on the blog, I can share insight from being a small business owner and photographer for the past decade. I plan on sharing what works and doesn’t work for me. This is from my point of view, take with a grain of salt.  I hope these post are enjoyed by small business owners and shutter bugs alike. I look forward to connecting more on these topics.  Feel free to chime in at the comments section below. If you have a suggestion or want a blog post on something specific please shoot me an email: lindsey@lindseypantaleo.com

As we near tax season, I wanted to share a couple of the new financial principles I have adopted this past year. If you are a left-brained artist like me, you have just checked out. I know the feeling; it’s my least favorite part of running a business.  I attended the After Dark convention in St. Louis at the beginning of this year; I started looking at the financial side of my small business a little different.   It doesn’t matter what type of small business you run, we all lack on keeping track of our day to day finances. Whether it be not having a structured time to complete the task, not enough funds to hire someone, or my poor excuse, I just hate doing it! At the convention I learned the method of Financial Friday from another photographer, Kathy Holcombe. It doesn’t have to be on Friday it could be Financial Tuesday, the point is to designate a weekly time to record your expenses and sales. At the beginning of this year, I made a game plan.

First and foremost, I found an accountant that has time for me and is really great at what he does.  Do that now. Accountants are going to be really busy in the next couple months. It would be wise to meet with them before year end in case you need more deductions, etc. Yes it is going to cost some money, but it is worth the time and hassle when tax season comes around. I know several photographers that still do their own accounting.  If you are running a business and you don’t have an accounting degree, I guarantee you can learn something from a professional that will save you money.

Financial Friday is my way of staying organized and up to date. Every Friday, I sit down with my receipts, checks, and other records and record everything into QuickBooks. At any point, I can go to my records and know how much I have spent and earned weekly. During my busy season, I have missed my weekly finance date. I can tell you trying to catch up from 2-4 weeks of profits and expenses is so much harder than spending that 15 minutes every week. If you are only updating your records yearly or quarterly, you are missing valuable information especially if you are in need to make a large purchase for your business.

Adopting Financial Friday has been a huge stress relief for me this year. I feel so organized! If you need a New Year’s Resolution, I challenge you to try this method.  Find a friend that may need help in this area as well. Every Friday, send each other a call, text, or email to hold each other accountable. I’d love to stay and chat, but these receipts aren’t going to enter themselves. Happy Friday Everyone! St. Louis Missouri Wedding Photography
